VERDE

The VERDE Project was a CENIT project dedicated to the research and generation of knowledge necessary for future manufacturing and marketing of environmentally friendly vehicles in Spain, basically plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and electric (EV). Frank Bekemeier, vice president of research and development of SEAT stated, “This project will give a major boost to the automobile sector in Spain and decisively contribute to its technological dynamism”.

The VERDE project aimed to investigate and generate knowledge on the key issues necessary for the manufacture and marketing of environmentally friendly vehicles in Spain, which would reduce energy dependence on oil in our country, reduce CO2 emissions in the transport sector, promote renewable energy penetration and ensure the future of R & D in the Spanish automotive industry. It was supported by the Ministry of Science and Innovation within the CENIT Program (National Strategic Consortia for Technical Research) through the Centre for Industrial Technological Development (CDTI).
VERDE Project was led and administratively coordinated by the SEAT Technical Centre, and technically and scientifically coordinated by CTM Technological Centre, involving 16 companies in the automotive, infrastructure and energy sectors, such as:

  • Cegasa
  • Circutor
  • Cobra
  • Endesa
  • Ficosa
  • Green Power
  • Iberdrola
  • Infranor
  • Lear
  • Mapro
  • Red Eléctrica España
  • Siemens
  • Rovalma
  • Tècnicas Reunidas

Grupo AIA’s role in the project had three main functions:

  • Evaluate the impact of electric vehicles on distribution networks
  • Develop new models for demand, forecasting electricity taking into account the mobility of the vehicle.
  • Develop charge microgrid algorithms, which the vehicles use.

The project ran from 2010 to 2012.
