Alicia Consola, AIA, co-author of the article: “Prevalence and control of cardiovascular risk factors in the population, what does the electronic clinical history tell us?”

Alicia Consola, a member of Grupo AIA ´s Healthcare unit, is the co-author of the article published by Elsevier “Analyzing prevalence, control, and management of hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, and diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2) in the Catalan primary healthcare system” from 2006 and 2009.

In this article, Alicia et al concluded that according to the survey results, hypertension is the most prevalent risk factor in Catalan primary healthcare centers. Two-thirds of individuals with high blood pressure or diabetes mellitus type 2 were adequately controlled whereas the control ratio of diabetes mellitus type 2 was very low.

The study results have served as the kick off for the creation of electronic clinical guidelines in primary care at the Institut Català de la Salut. Doctors can validate the knowledge provided in the guidelines and simplify their automation process.
