CENIT VERDE Drives the Electromobility in Spain
SEAT has hosted the closing ceremony of CENIT VERDE, a research and development project on technologies for the introduction of electric vehicles in Spain. During the four-year research study, more than 800 professionals from 16 companies and 14 governmental agencies from different fields have teamed up to develop sustainable alternatives for the automotive, infrastructure and energy sectors.
Grupo AIA, Cegasa, Cobra, Endesa, Iberdrola, Lear, and Siemens are among the participating companies in the project led by SEAT´s Technical Center, with support of the Ministry of Science and Innovation through the Center for Industrial Technology Development (CDTI) and the coordination of the CTM Center for Technology Foundation. The project has been funded for a total of 34 million euros and has become a benchmark in Europe thanks to the public and private partnership and the development of a significant number of research and innovation studies.
Before an audience comprised of representatives from different companies and the Secretary of State for Research, Development, and Innovation, Carmen Vela, the project results of the participating organizations were presented, and the SEAT LEON GREEN prototype, interconnected to a recharge management smart system was among them. This research project has fostered investment in electric mobility and innovation to turn Spain into a global player in the electric vehicle sector. More specifically, it has allowed making progress in a variety of fields ranging from battery research to the integration of the vehicle into the electrical system, from recharge infrastructure to vehicle communication with the grid.
Moreover, CENIT VERDE has broadened companies´ technical knowledge and competitiveness and has opened the door to future agreements between these companies and technological centers to continue doing research in intersectoral projects to promote the development of technologies needed for the electromobility universalization. Therefore, a step forward has been made towards making Spain more competitive.
Ramón Paredes, executive Vice President of Governmental and Institutional Relations of SEAT and Volkswagen Group in Spain, has referred to the program as “the most ambitious research initiative ever conducted by a Spanish business group in such an important technological field as the Electro mobility” “Parades said, “Funding R & D projects is an essential part of the industrial policy of any developed nation, or at least those that want to remain to be so. Experience shows that countries that have swum against the tide have managed to overcome the crisis faster and stronger”
